Incoming Alien Spacecraft?

Scientists led by Stephen Hawking are using high-tech scanners to discover if a huge, cigar-shaped ‘comet’ Oumuamua is in fact, an alien probe!

One astronomer claims that the space rock named Oumuamua, could be an alien spacecraft with broken engines that is tumbling through our solar system. Dr Jason Wright from Penn State University suggests that a broken alien spacecraft move in exactly the same way as the interstellar comet.

This is NOT new. Star Trek the Original Series had an episode with this very scenario way back on November 8, 1968. The Episode is entitled “For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky” Read about this and a show clip below these excerpts.

Oumuamua is about a quarter of a mile long, 260ft wide and currently travelling at 196,000mph. Rather than moving through space like other space rocks, astronomers believe that it is ‘tumbling’ through our solar system.

Writing in his blog, Dr Wright, an associate professor of astronomy and astrophysics at Penn State University, says: ‘Such derelict craft would, if they are not travelling so fast that they escape the Galaxy, eventually ‘thermalize’ with the stars and end up drifting around like any other interstellar comet or asteroid.

‘In fact, since they (presumably) no longer have attitude control, one would expect that they would eventually begin to tumble, and if they are very rigid that tumbling might distinguish them from ordinary interstellar asteroids… and in fact, just because their propulsion is broken doesn’t mean that their radio transmitters would be broken.’

Dr Wright suggests that the object could be a ‘Von Neumann probe‘ – a theoretical self-replicating spacecraft that visits star systems.

He added: ‘Such a discovery would imply that there are lots of these things in the solar system at any given moment (even if they are deliberately targeting the sun, they are hard to spot and we’ll miss most of them), and so lots of opportunities to study them.’

Dr Wright previously suggested the mysterious dimming of star KIC 8462852 – also known as Tabby’s Star – could be caused by an alien megastructure called a Dyson Sphere. His latest comments come ahead of a project later today in which scientists will use high-tech scanners to discover if Oumuamua was sent by an alien civilisation.

The team of scientists, called Breakthrough Listen, will use the world’s largest directable radio telescope, at Green Bank in West Virginia, to follow it for ten hours today at 3pm ET (8pm GMT). They are listening for electromagnetic signals, no stronger than those emitted by a mobile phone, that cannot be produced by natural celestial bodies.

If they find them, it would be proof that extraterrestrial forces really could be at play. For the moment, they are trying to contain their excitement. But the name they have given this bizarre object betrays their optimism.
Oumuamua is a Hawaiian term meaning ‘a messenger from afar arriving first’.

Most intriguingly, it is the wrong shape for an asteroid — they are typically round.

Professor Hawking and his colleagues at Breakthrough Listen report: ‘Researchers working on long-distance space transportation have previously suggested that a cigar or needle shape is the most likely architecture for an interstellar spacecraft, since this would minimise friction and damage from interstellar gas and dust.’

Another oddity is that Oumuamua is flying very ‘cleanly’, without emitting the usual cloud of space dust that astronomers observe around asteroids. Experts say this suggests it is made of something dense: probably rock, but possibly metal.

It was first detected on October 19 by a long-running research programme called Pan-STARRS, which uses powerful telescopes to photograph and monitor the night sky at the University of Hawaii.
Its amazing speed has led some experts to conclude it is the first such object to have come towards us from outside our solar system.

Analysts also say its faintly red colour indicates it has been subjected to interstellar cosmic radiation which is harsher than we experience in our solar system. The fact that it doesn’t seem to have engines or show signs of propulsion may wreck the interplanetary-spacecraft theory.

If a radio signal does come back from the object, Professor Avi Loeb, Professor of Astronomy at Harvard University, suggests that we will need to proceed with caution.

Speaking to MailOnline, he said: ‘My recommendation, as in any dialogue, is that we first listen and do our best to understand what we are hearing.

‘Once we figure this out, we can decide how to respond.

‘Overall, I am an optimist. I believe that a very intelligent civilisation will be peaceful, and we could save ourselves millions or billions of years by learning from it.

‘But there is also the possibility that such a civilization will have hostile intentions and risk our existence, so we should deliberate carefully in any future contact with them.’ Source: Daily Mail UK

For the World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky

The eighth episode of the third season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek. In the episode, the crew of the Enterprise rush to stop an asteroid from colliding with a Federation world, but discover the asteroid is actually an inhabited generation ship. And it has….., A FAULTY ENGINE!

The Enterprise is targeted by ballistic missiles, but they easily destroy the primitive weapons, tracing their point of origin to a large asteroid called Yonada. They find Yonada is on course to collide with the heavily populated planet Daran V within a solar year, which would be catastrophic. They scan the asteroid and find it has a breathable internal atmosphere. Captain Kirk, First Officer Spock, and Dr. McCoy transport over to investigate. They discover that Yonada is populated by a highly religious society of humanoids that worship their Oracle. The High Priestess, Natira, orders the capture of the three and takes them to the Oracle. Kirk attempts to explain that they have come in peace but the Oracle knocks them unconscious with an electric shock.

When they wake, an old man approaches them, having heard of their arrival, and tells them that he has seen the outside of the asteroid, stating “…for the world is hollow and I have touched the sky”. Suddenly he goes into shock and dies, and McCoy discovers a glowing device under the man’s temple. They learn that all on Yonada have been implanted with such “instruments of obedience” under the Oracle’s control. Reminding them again of the punishment for disobedience, Natira allows the three to explore the asteroid. McCoy stays with Natira, as the two are beginning to develop a relationship, while Kirk and Spock discover the asteroid is really a generation ship housing millions of beings of the Fabrini race. The ship was launched over 10,000 years prior to escape the destruction of their world by a supernova but the current residents are unaware of the nature of their world. Kirk and Spock, having secretly re-entered the Oracle room, watch as Natira privately prays to it about marrying McCoy. The Oracle agrees if he will accept an obedience device. It then viciously shocks Kirk and Spock again. Natira says she must execute them for their transgression but McCoy persuades her to relent. As Kirk and Spock prepare to beam back to the Enterprise McCoy insists on staying behind with Natira even if Starfleet has to destroy the generation ship to protect Daran V.
